yes.

Hmmm, I never thought of that as I'd not seen it before and that monitor
is one of the earliest lcd's extant, well over a decade old now, 4x3
format even. I'll take a walk up the hill and see what I have when the
monitor is turned on, but I arrived at what I have which is essentially
the same thing by a different route, see my msg back to Dan Ritter on
the debian list I copied to the -devel list here. I used apt to remove
lightdm and light-locker and installed xdm for a window manager so the x
startup is still automatic.

My afternoon is shot as I'm to visit my missus and deliver a piano
keyboard with bt phones so she can exercise her arthritic fingers
without disturbing her roomie at the rest home.

That file FWIW, will not be read unless its put
in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. Put it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d and its
ignored, and you will be missing these lines from the Xorg.0.log:
[ 24.513] (**) Option "BlankTime" "0"
[ 24.513] (**) Option "StandbyTime" "0"
[ 24.513] (**) Option "SuspendTime" "0"
[ 24.513] (**) Option "OffTime" "0"

Well, I forgot to send this before I left to go see my missus. And I
have the wierdest thing I've seen on that machines own monitor. Big
Debian logo on the signon requestor which I assume is the xdm login. And
I can type in and see my login name in the upper user box, which then
outlines the lower passwd box, but nothing I type is displayed in that
box in any form, so obviously I cannot log in.

Ideas? Things I can check from this ssh login?

Thanks Andy.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
