Entering passwords blindly has long been a thing in Linux. Keeps any sort of 
screen snooper from being able to see how many characters are in them.
Dunno if there's a way to echo the password to the prompt, in plaintext or as 
asterisks.

Still _might_ be deliberate. It means that the hypothetical bad guy
doesn't even know how many characters are in your passcode.
