I don't think that you need to.

You just need the settings in the VFD to match the settings in hy_vfd.

PD001, PD002, PD163, PD164, PD165 as described in the hy_vfd manpage.

I have

PD001 = 2
PD002 = 2
PD163 = 1
PD164 = 2
PD165 = 3

loadusr -W hy_vfd -d /ttyUSB0 -r 19200 -b8 -pnone -s1 -t1

Are you sure that it is on ttyUSB0? (Does that disappear when you unplug it?)

Is it definitely not one of the HY GT series? (which need the hy_gt_vfd comp)
