Yeah, gettext is definitely crap, but what about the setup-gettext
script I wrote that was put into e17? (I don't know if it's still
there, actually?) It was designed for the gaim project, as we had many
people all using different combinations of gettext, automake, and
autoconf, and the script handled every one of their cases. Might be
worth a try.
