Problem is at least in my case with SDDM. They can cause some issues.
SDDM on my laptop, but not desktop, would not turn off backlight or
cursor. For either internal or external monitor, across 2 laptops.
Desktop was never effected.

Sure, but when people have odd issues that others are not experiencing.
Even worse if they come from the DM, then you get the blame game, and
maybe no one willing to spend time to fix.

Not sure about technologies moved on. It has grub2, systemd, etc. Just
not wayland, yet. Seemed more the original author lost interest. Thus
it fell to others, not sure its moot, the past.

The present is I am as time permits fixing issues and slowly getting it
into hopefully a usable state for others. I am already using it, and
short of not able to log out. It is working fine. Just need to start
seeing what it will take to get it working for others.

Mostly fixing issues, new features, etc are a long way off

Started with 18 defects, it found a new one as I fixed 2 others, and
seems a 3rd did not fix so remained.
