Interesting. I have an issue (already reported)  with E17 locking
completely when trying add a new application. Removing Hal stops the
crash. Also, and I can't find it at the moment, there was another
mailing list or blog where dbus doing a restart caused similar
problems on another window manager which was traced to Hal
misbehaving.
