the maximum number of menu items seem to depend on screen height when
'text scaling' is not the default setting. I could reproduce with
navigate files menu. also when there are really many directories the
menu does not show at all in any case, maybe it should be limited as
it is unlikely that anyone will scroll  through 1000+ dirs by menu or
wants to wait for the menu to be build
