I did check, it doesn't answer the problem. This seems to be a fairly
catastrophic problem. What is interesting is that both standard Palm
categories and custom categories have the problem.
Reading the postings, it seems that Entourage creates categories based on
the categories on the Palm, and since each Palm application maintains a
separate category list that may be contributing to the problem. In looking
at my Palm's configuration, I see two applications contain the category
QuickList, but other do not. If Entourage is created a "QuickList" category
each time it sees QuickList, but is not matching the two, that might explain
why I get two QuickList categories every time I synchronize. This would
indicate that Entourage synchronization has some fundamental problems, and
probably needs a major rewrite or to be abandoned completely in favor of
purchasing the technology directly from Palm. However, it does not explain
why I get eight "Personal" categories...
Also this seems to happen even when I have the conduits set to do nothing -
but this needs more investigation.
Another problem is that the Entourage conduit seems to have problems with
the ToDo data - it reported a corrupt database, yet the data seems fine and
can be handled by the Palm Desktop.
Also irritating is that while Entourage shows all of my contacts, most of
them have been deleted from the Palm, despite having the synchronize with
Palm flag checked. This may be related to my trying to eliminate duplicates
in the Entourage address book after the first sync. Unfortunately, this
eliminates the possibility of using the handheld overwrites option.
What I have been trying is to delete all duplicate categories from
Entourage, then let the synchronization process create the new categories
based on the Palms category list, but this is not proving successful.
