I'm beginning to think this is an issue of file recognition. I did try
increasing E's memory allotment from 19300 (which I would think should be
sufficient) to 21000. But it still doesn't do any good, for files that come
through newsgroups.

I tried sending a message to myself, with an attached PICT and an attached
JPEG. Both displayed fine.

Then I tried downloading a message from alt.binaries.pictures.auto. The
message has an attached jpg file, and I can save the picture, but it doesn't
display in the message. I've also noticed since applying SR1 that when I
receive things like Word files as attachments, and save them, they are *not*
recognized as Word files. That is, I can't open them by double-clicking; I
have to drop them onto Word's icon, or specifically open them with Word.

So perhaps the problem is that Entourage doesn't know this is supposed to be
a picture? Is there some file conversion file or something that I'm missing?
I see a Microsoft Conversion Library in my Office folder, but no
corresponding file in my Extensions folder. Does this file need to be there
(or directly in the Microsoft Office 2001 folder) in order for Entourage to
recognize the proper file type? Or is library for something else?
