It's also one of the types of file that is sent out by the SirCAM virus.
Were the files accompanied by a short message with words to the effect of:

    "Hi! How are you?

    I send you this file in order to have your advice

    See you later. Thanks"

If so, the person sending you the files has been infected by SirCAM, but you
need not worry - Macs are immune :)
