You need to make sure that ALL the messages in your selection have a "server" status icon displayed; if even *one* message has already been deleted from its server, the pop up won't activate. The easiest way to "eliminate" any previously deleted messages is to "select all" and then command click the ones you don't need; if you command click IN the online status column, the pop up will display as soon as you have a valid selection. You can also select "ranges" of messages if there are too many messages to deselect.
