What do you do the PPPoE part with? An app on your mac?  The mac's network control 
panel?

Not really. I have just moved from @home cable modem service (using DHCP) to a DSL 
service using PPPoE and no problems. My DSL is connected to my router to which is 
connected (among other things) my Airport base station. I run 3 Macs over the wireless 
in the house in addition to a wired connection. No problems; just don't try to use 
their stupid software; all you usually get is a customized browser (usually a release 
behind) that is set to take you to a particular home page that you can customize for 
your weather, news, etc.
