See what might happen if you pre-select your contacts in the Address Book, using the standard Mac technique of command-click for multiple selections (or shift-click the outer ones if they're all bunched together if they have the same category and you've sorted by category), and THEN click that button. I just tried it myself - I didn't know the answer before I tried it out.
