No, the redirected message should show whatever you put there. Your friend should get the message as if addressed directly to him, and should be able to reply to it directly.
If it comes in altered, something else must be altering it. Is it possible you sent your test message to a web-mail account that then forwards mail to your usual address? I have an account at mail.com, for instance; any messages sent there arrive at my earthlink.net address with the only indication they were addressed to the mail.com address being lines in the Internet headers.
