It's random for me too. Typically it happens when going to or coming from a custom view, to or from any other folder. But it does also occur just going from one folder to another (reading mail in inbox, then clicking on another folder in my list for example). It also doesn't seem to matter if the preview pane is open or not. It's a very weird little bug. We must eradicate it! :)
