I have been having problems over the last few months with an occasional e-mail message which, when I try to print, will hang Entourage. If I either choose command-P or print from the file menu, nothing happens. It never gets to the point that I even get a print dialog box, so it is not related to a particular printer. A few seconds later when I move the cursor with my trackpad, I note that it has changed into a spinning beachball (pinwheel?). This goes on interminably. I am not able to do anything else in Entourage and end up force quitting.
For a particular message this is 100% reproducible. Any time I try to print that particular message it hangs. I can even print other e-mails without a problem and come back to the one with which I had a problem, try printing again, and it hangs on me. Other messages are fine. It is still a problem when I restart Entourage. It is still a problem if I drag the e-mail from the Entourage window to the desktop, open the e-mail and try to print from there. Click print and it hangs Entourage. If I want to print the message I have to cut and paste into TextEdit or a word processor.
I cannot find any clear common thread between the ones the hang up Entourage, nor any common thread between the ones that don't. I have not noticed this in e-mails with HTML, although I haven't ruled that out. All of the ones that hang up on printing are plain text thus far.
I have done basic and advance rebuilds of Entourage. I have restarted the computer, run fsck -y, run various disk utilities, zapped PRAM, etc. I just did the update from OS X 10.2.3. to 10.2.4. No dice. Nothing seems to correct this.
Has anyone else seen this?
I am using Entourage X Service Release 1 Version 10.1.1 (2418), on a PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.2.4.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
