It does sound like your database is hosed. I can't help with details on
using BBEdit to recover your files. Sorry!

Unless you have mail that is really important, I would just start fresh.
It's possible you can recover individual mails with BBEdit, but to do the
entire database could be more of a job than it's really worth.

I do recommend that you set a Task to remind you to copy your database on a
regular basis. Simply Duplicate the identity and add the date for archiving
purposes. This way you can revert to a previous database if this ever occurs
again. Remember to save older databases since corruption sometimes does not
show up for a while. You might need to go back several weeks to find a good
one.

I had this happen to me with Quicken. I lost months of data, but I had kept
copies and finally found one that was not corrupt.
