Allen, Julian, Remo, Harry, David, and Others --

I had no idea my "simple" question would unleash such a stream of replies.
The gist of them seems to be, "too bad" and similar, noting spammers.  But,
so much of what's been posted since the first question has focused on
Earthlink, I am curious (as an accomplished non-techie) whether the issues
would likely be the same/similar with most other ISPs/internet
cafes/ethernet cyber cable ports (e.g., Kinkos).  Or, would all this go away
if I added an IMAP account, iMac, or something else SIMPLE?   Sometimes
"simple" doesn't work.  But us Mac users relish "simple" if that's in the
cards....
