There are a couple of possibilities here.

1) Although the database is identical, the new identity in new user will
have started out with a brand new set of preferences in its own
~/Library/Preferences/ folder. So if it's actually a prefs file that's
corrupt or has improper permissions, that's been fixed in the new identity.
And it would indicate that the database is not corrupt.

2) It's possible that the original database is occupying space on your hard
drive which contains bad blocks. Or perhaps is just badly fragmented
(unusual in OS X, but possible), The process of copying the database finds
new contiguous space on the disk, and you'd have no problem in the new
identity.

As a check, you could duplicate the original identity folder, RENAME the
copy so it's not called "Main Identity" or whatever the original is called,
and leave it in the same Office 2004 Identities folder as the original - in
your own OS X user folder. Open Entourage, go to Entourage/Switch
Identities, and switch to this identity. Now this identity will use some of
the same preferences files (although there must be new modifications to
these files) as your original. So if you still have a problem, that's where
it is - in ~/Library/Preferences/. If the database was the problem, it
should be fixed here for the same reason as 2) above. In that case, you
could go on using _this_ new identity as your permanent one (and name it
back to whatever you want), and in due course delete the old one.

In any case, you could do a Rebuild of the database you intend to continue
with - hold down Option key when launching Entourage - to be sure. And if
you do have bad blocks on your disk, you'll run into trouble again. So you
should definitely use Disk Warrior to build a new disk directory. Maybe
TechTool Pro too to check for disk damage.

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - **2004**, X
or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.
