No, it's a Unix list :) I contend that much of the Mac's strength came from
Apple publishing the H.I.G. and declaring to developers that 'thou shalt
follow 'em, buddy, or the wrath of dozens of users be upon you, unless your
name is Kai Krause.' Should these developers be condemned for following the
new rules? Apple does it themselves. Rearrange /Applications and then see
what gets updated at the next system upgrade.

Personally, I feel ambivalent about the issue. On one hand, I would like to
organise my files as I wish (although I do wish to put all my documents into
~/Documents anyway). OTOH, the number of times I've 'fixed' other people's
machines by sitting down and saying 'why did you think it was a good idea to
<e.g. Delete every single file on the hard drive that you didn't recognise
[true story]> in the first place?' is way too many. Telling people to learn
a few rules seems entirely reasonable to me.

Reminds me: I had a BOFH t-shirt somewhere. Must dig it out again...
