You may well be right, but it seems a bit drastic. I've sent a test mail off to a colleague of mine who has noticed the odd mail coming through with strange characters. In the test mail, I've used both 'smart' and 'straight' quotes as Entourage calls them, which sounds like what you were referring to Rich when you mentioned curly or typographic quotes, by changing the settings that Beth referred to. I'll see what happens.
