    Email was never intended for HTML, RTF or fancy stuff.

If the problem is only with SENT mail then the turning off of typographers
quotes (�� ��) unless expressly invoked from the keyboard (option (shift) [
& ]) should do. That way YOU control who you use them with.

Those composing rules are for people who can't remember where to find the
real characters on the keyboard. Really, if I want � I can invoke it better
than having the machine think all --- should be changed. (and so on for
other characters.) I learned where all the option characters were with my
first 512k Mac. :-)
