You should have no trouble at all using it as a "general purpose" lens, I
have had mine for 3 years now and could not expect more in a pro/consumer
level lens at this price. Sure one could wish for a little more at the wide
and the tele end, but that would have likely caused compromise and cost
increase.
If I am not mistaken, the D30 will "multiply" the focal length by 1.6X due
to its smaller than 35mm format imaging sensor, please feel free to correct
this.
