Hi Nick,

There has been a lot posted by many list members about the 28-135 in
the past. Did you bother to look in the archives?
  http://www.egroups.com/group/eos/
  http://www.listquest.com/goto/canoneos/

You might be interested to know that the 28-135 has an incompatibility
with the 620/600/630. The 28-135 user manual states that immediately
after an exposure, the viewfinder image will shake.

The shake should not affect image quality, but I'm not sure what happens
in continuous wind mode.

Like many other zooms, the natural loosening of the zoom action is quite
distressing. (However, I may have found a way to overcome zoom creep :-)

You may also find that optical performance improves a lot when you use a
lens hood. Get the newer version: EW-78B II.

Other minuses:
Expensive;
Heavy weight;
Large 72mm filters;
Large barrel obscures on-camera flash at close distance;
Mode 1 IS not fully compatible with panning or tripod use;
Plastic barrel allows some sideways movement when fully extended;
Barrel construction is not sealed against dust;
Aperture is not wide enough for fast AF or TC use
28mm focal length is not very wide for D30 1.6x magnification

Cheers
Julian Loke
P.S. I really do like my EF 28-135 IS USM lens :-)
