Marc,
I second the LowePro MiniTrekker. It's a VERY well
made bag (along with everything else in the LowePro
line). Make sure you get the latest version, though.
LowePro redesigned the bag earlier this year. The
newer version comes with a built-in tripod holster
that runs down the front center of the bag. I carry
my full-size Slik 700DX tripod this way. The last I
checked, the new version only came in two colors: all
black and green/black.
On the interior of the bag, I have the following:
ElanIIe w/ BP-50
Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSM EX
Tokina 28-70/2.8 ATX Pro II
Tokina 20-35/3.5-4.5 II
Sigma 90/2.8 macro
380EX
As well as:
Leatherman pocket tool
Wired and Wireless remotes
Loads of film (at times over two dozen rolls)
Notebook
Handful of pens (including the must-have Sharpie)
Mini Maglite
Car keys
Cell phone
...
The interior has movable dividers so that you can
configure it the way you need it. I've read postings
where folks carry their 300/2.8 easily with the bag.
I don't have a 300/2.8 at the moment, but I hope that
I can prove it to you some day. =)
The bag is nicely weather protected with generous
overflaps on the appropriate zippers. If you plan on
trekking through a rain-forest, I believe LowePro also
makes the bag in a "AW" (All Weather) version.
As Rob mentioned above, the bag also comes with
mounting loops on either side to which you can install
any of LowePro's modular container units to carry even
more stuff, if need be. A fellow list member (George
Spinner) mounts a lens holder from LowePro's Street &
Field line, and he then carries his 300/4 this way.
I'm currently looking for LowePro's water bottle
holder. (Water is definitely necessary if you plan on
hiking with all this stuff for any extended amount of
time.)
The bag goes for around a little over $100 and comes
with a lifetime warranty. I personally think it's a
great value. I know of one "Two Letter Titled"
retailer who is active on this List which normally has
it in stock. =P
Happy Holidays,
Cian
