What do you mean by "confuses the litelink"?

Is there a way to disable the E-TTL preflash on the 420EX, because I want 
to get the 420EX for the times where I will be using it portable on the 
camera's hot shoe?

As for the shadow made by the built-in flash, can it be filled by the slave 
flash?
