some pretty decent lenses. Also Sigma has come a long way since the days
when (I hear) they used a certain amount of tape on internal lens
mechanisms. Now, not only would I not be concerned about buying a Sigma EX
series lens, but I could also be assured of pretty good quality optics.
Their 70-200 f/2.8 EX HSM is very close in optical quality to the EF 70-200
f/2.8 L. And, if it wasn't so redundant given I have the 100-400 IS, I'd
get very interested in their new 100-300 f/4 EX with HSM. A generalized
statement about the inherent quality of third-party lenses is not very
appropriate these days...there are some excellent ones, but also some real
dogs too. Just depends upon the specific lens you're talking about.
