I have an old Sigma 21-35mm f3.5-4.2 that is outstanding. Photodo rates it a
3.5 (the same as the Canon 20-35mm f2.8 L and better than the 20-35mm
3.5-4.5 and the 17-35mm 2.8L), and I think it may be better than that. It's
heavy and the permanently-fixed shade is awkward, but I love it.
The only problem is that it's not on the list of lenses that Sigma will
update, or the list of lenses that have no problems with the Elan 7, so it
is probably incompatible. Works fine with my EOS 1 and EOS 1n, though. The
other Sigma wide zooms aren't nearly as good.
