Peter K I'm not so sure this is true; I've read equal number of (persuasive) articles that argue just the opposite: number and shape of aperture blades makes little or no difference in out of focus area rendition. One thing is for certain: when shooting wide open (and that's when you obviously have the _most_ out of focus background area), the aperture blades play no role at all.
