Several months ago there was a similar opinion expressed about IS on the
35mm equipment newsgroup.  This was just before the actual release of
Nikon's VR, by the way.  If you have ever tried to shoot from a bridge,
especially one with traffic on it, IS will come in handy, tripod or no.
Moose doesn't like what he doesn't understand, and tends to jump to
conclusions without thinking them through.  The heaviest, sturdiest
tripod in the world won't help you if what you've set your tripod on is
moving!
