A fabulous lens--one of Canon's best and my favorite among those I have. Fast,
precise, handles easily, is wonderfully sharp, works *very* well with Canon's
extenders (gives you a very nice 280/4 with the 1.4x extender) and extension
tubes (the 25mm tube gives you a reasonable if somewhat limited macro capability
with good working distance), and accepts a tripod ring. Works quite well for the
purposes you mention. Probably *the* bargain among Canon's "L" lenses even when
bought new. This would be my choice, hands-down . . . and it was. Indeed, three
years on, I still feel no need for a telephoto zoom, and I'm a telephoto kinda
guy! You already have up to 135mm covered with the IS lens, so the two zooms you
mention would be largely redundant except at the long end.
