The 35-350 is probably decent for portraits and lends them a nice soft
focus effect.  Some of the nicest portraits (at least according to the
person being photographed) we taken with my old 75-300.  The 70-200 f2.8
is a lot sharper and some older women tend to complain about the
wrinkles.
