If you don't want to spend for the Canon, consider the Tamron 90mm.
Rated very highly & from personal experience does a great job.  That was
my first Macro lens, but eventually I got the Canon & never looked back.
The biggest difference is the availability of a tripod ring.  Being able
to quickly recompose to vertical without reworking the whole macro set
up was worth the difference.

I have the 70-200 and it's a great travel lens.  Ocassionally I wish I
was using the 2.8.
