VueScan imports RAW files just fine, and quickly. I often use it to create 
tifs, then do any editing in The Gimp. For my work, it makes NO SENSE to 
create jpgs in the camera, and ONLY when needed as a greately reduced image 
to file attach. Otherwise, I convert RAW to tif.
