Jim, IMHO what it boils down to is:
You are buying the lens. You will be usingthe lens. You will decide if it is the lens you want to keep and use.
I won't be making that decision nor will the others that have replied.
BTW, I have the 28-135 IS and the 20-70L. I really like them both. When I have to travel light, the 28-135 goes with me. I've been satisfied.
