EF-M (high-end tele's, plus old 28-80/2.8-4.0, IIRC)) would solve 
this problem, since the manual mode (interfering/additional, not 
exclusive) can be switched off entirely.

Ideally, EF-M would be switched on/off by sensing finger 
pressure....:))
(more than just accidental touching)
