Susan is right in her recommended precautions.

I use Norton Antivirus. It's good, but so are many others.

Pretty much all of the current leading programs will update the virus
signatures daily.

I set my Antivirus program to do a full system scan every night. (I leave
it on 24/7/365.25)

In addition, I bought a router which is also a hardware firewall. And, as
always, my antivirus checks everything that comes into my computer from the
Internet.

Finally, I do not open ANY files except for a very few file types: .eml,
.jpg, .bmp and not much else. Even .jpg can now carry viruses so I'm
trusting Norton Antivirus to keep me safe with those file types.

I NEVER open an executable file unless I PRE-arranged for it to be sent to
me. Any unsolicited executable files get immediately hard-deleted (hold
down the shift key while you hit delete).

So far, I'm up to 20 years of active Internet communication without an
infection. (Knock on my head and cross every part of my body.)

I won't dwell on this subject with further posts - I'm really no an expert
on this subject. But, it's worth a few messages to protect ourselves from
those computer diseases out there.
