Hello Michal, hello list,
I am still more or less (ATM rather less, for time reasons of lack of time) struggling to get a decent working environment set up myself, so I am suggesting from mere reading of your presentation and some other things I've seen. Since you said you'd have to keep it short and simple you might in the end decide that the suggestions are not worth the effort after all, but -- for now -- here are two or three small things that came to my mind:

- When you mention OLE, you could mention that this was a technology copied (badly) by Microsoft from NeXTSEP -- which became OpenStep which became GNUstep which is what Etoile is based on. I am not sure whether or not GNUstep/Etoile actually do already fully feature the "real thing", but since you are writing about visions, it's not so far off. I couldn't find a link right now other than this one, a blog entry providing that good ole Steve Jobs presentation:

http://www.musingsfrommars.org/2006/09/nextstep-in-1992-if-only-we-had-known.html

- second thing: maybe it was worthwile having a look at Nicholas' LaTeX service. If the job application was, say in a marketing firm instead of a bar staff and the student decided it would be important to have a properly typeset letter and therefore to use LaTeX... The service is here:
 http://www.roard.com/latexservice/
(but I haven't been able to get it up on my box, so consider this -- as well as the preceding one -- just as pointing you to gimmicks which don't hurt if left away.)

- finally, while I know that there is no viable alternative ready, would a web browsing session -- or the adress retrieval for that matter -- need to look different than opening the web-browsing application and using it as we are used to? I mean, isn't the fact that this is the way it's done right now and the way you're presenting it, merely due to the fact that for web browsing/adress-retrieval-from-the-internet there just isn't a non-application-based software ready? Can the object- or document-oriented approach be applied to that task and have it look very different? I actually don't know the answer, but I think it's worthwile reflecting -- at least shortly -- about it and maybe giving an explanation along with the presentation of the sub-task.

All in all, I must say I am really impressed by how the environment and workflow look on your presentation. I imagine it's not so far to go for Etoile to really get there. (I am not in the picture at all there, maybe only stability/deployment issues?)

Good luck with your work,
Andreas
