This reminded me of a study I saw about a year ago. We all like
hierarchies, because they are easy to work with. It's easy to see
how things relate within a hierarchy, and assemble them together.
The reason for this is that people who get on well with hierarchies
tend to be good at (or, at least, interested in) programming[1].
This means that programmers tend to generate hierarchical interfaces,
and then inflict them on the rest of the world, who don't really
understand them, like them, or want them.

a cause or effect of this was not addressed.
