I use Cadega for Linux Direct X so its all built in. I usually stay near the FREE GNU stuff .. and Cadega is not free, but it's super sweet for running just about anything that needs Direct X - so its one of the exceptions i've made.

and point to play will work for stuff other than games and takes a lot of the work out of getting WINE to work with the tougher DX apps.

Games I run usually see a framerate boost ( SWG mainly ) .. If I could get a driver for my Nostromo N52 I'd dump wintendo altogether.

So just a heads up if you hanven't heard of this alternative...

A friend of mine in the computer center today decided to try running "Microsoft GenuineCheck" (GenuineCheck.exe) on WINE, just for fun. You need to run this to install DirectX etc...

Anyways, GenuineCheck thought that his WINE install was actually really XP. The version 20050725 used was from the debian reposatory. Just a heads up.

While installing DirectX, you can choose to validate from another computer. It works great!
