I hear you on the ink! I've been using separate color tanks since the
beginning, but that didn't stop the dribble of dollars. I'm sure it's
a conspiracy! I acknowledge that Epson is better then Canon (based on
what I hear,) but laserjet is even better. I don't know about Total
Cost of Ownership, but I need the crisp durable output of a laserjet for
my project and I don't want any monkeys at Kinko's seeing my stuff
before I send it out.
With Dell and Wal-Mart on board I think we will see a range of
Linux-ready products by next year. On the other hand with the Vista
release you've got some real job security there ; )

If Canon would step up to the plate and offer at least a little
help or provide some needed information to the linux printing
projects then all could be better. As it is, HP and Epson
actually provide some sort of driver for *most* of their
printers. HP even has their 'toolbox' utility to tell you things
about your printer and ink levels. My next printer is likely to
be an Epson though as I want something affordable with seperate
color tanks. Not exactly the biggest fan of refilling and I'm
not dropping $30 everytime I use too much yellow.

I am getting the message about which hardware to buy for Linux
migration. First I am going to get a continuous inking system
for my
canon and limp along for a while. I want to get back to
developing my
comic book for engineering education. There's a lot of buzz
about using
gaming to educate and the comic book is the first step for me.
I am
going to get one of those color laserjet HP's when I scrape
together the
money.
