I've been using Comcast locally for years. Never had any issues with
the customer service other than one time when I wound up talking to a
service rep with a foreign accent who couldn't seem to understand what
I was saying. The fix was to end the conversation and call back to get
a different service rep.

I'll echo what Mike said about the setup. Windows is not required
unless you want to use the Windows installer that comes on the CD from
Comcast.

However, you might want to check the service agreement. Mine had a
liquidated damages provision that said I owe Comcast $500 if I fail to
return the modem they provided, an Arris Touchtone Telephony Modem.
That price wasn't so far out of line back when I signed up. But the
same modem is selling these days for $30-$45 on eBay.

Modems can be stolen. So if they still have the $500 liquidated
damages provision, you might consider buying a modem rather than
paying the monthly modem rental charge.

Best regards,

Paul
