Testing the live distro at "brick and mortar" stores sounds like a good idea, although it doesn't seem that practical on Black Friday at 5:30 a.m. at Best Buy, but then again, that's what refunds and receipts are for.
- IMHO knoppix sounds like a good live distro test too. >>> Can you boot off the optical drive or a usb device? I don't know, but that question raises another question now that usb external hard drives are cheaper than the internal ones. I have this maxtor one touch 120 gig external drive that I tried to install & run Ubuntu on from my desktop without much luck. I mean I have an ext3 or ext2 partition that reads data but the BIOS doesn't seem to like booting Ubuntu. Actually I can't remember exactly what I did with that. I need to get around to experimenting with live usb distros. It's one of those experiments I've been slacking on. >>> You may have to change a setting to do so. Bringing it to a euglug meeting >>> where the group can look at it usually will find a solution to this type of problem. Try and find out a model number. >>> Have you considered the possibility that your friend may not want to install linux and is using this as a polite way to say no? Perhaps, but it's his computer and his business what he wants to do with it. I don't really care, but since I'm about to go laptop shopping within the next 6 months, I thought I'd get the facts straight about this predicament. Thanks once again. _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
