Testing the live distro at "brick and mortar" stores sounds like a
good idea, although it doesn't seem that practical on Black Friday at
5:30 a.m. at Best Buy, but then again, that's what refunds and
receipts are for.

- IMHO knoppix sounds like a good live distro test too.

>>> Can you boot off the optical drive or a usb device?

I don't know, but that question raises another question now that usb
external hard drives are cheaper than the internal ones. I have this
maxtor one touch 120 gig external drive that I tried to install & run
Ubuntu on from my desktop without much luck. I mean I have an ext3 or
ext2 partition that reads data but the BIOS doesn't seem to like
booting Ubuntu.

Actually I can't remember exactly what I did with that. I need to
get around to experimenting with live usb distros. It's one of those
experiments I've been slacking on.

Perhaps, but it's his computer and his business what he wants to do
with it. I don't really care, but since I'm about to go laptop
shopping within the next 6 months, I thought I'd get the facts
straight about this predicament.

Thanks once again.
