Uhhh...What panic? I'm just bummed that the computer purchases I've been putting off for both the upstairs and downstairs for some months is now pushed back several additional unknown number of months.

"Full distribution"? Of what? The chipset part? Or built boxes containing new motherboards with the repaired chipset?

Please post as soon as you have the new boxes with the new motherboard containing the new chipset parts in stock and readily available.

Of course S#$t happens, and indeed Intel is quite lucky they discovered the issue very early in the "sales cycle". But I have to say it would have been better if the issue was caught in the "Testing/QA cycle". Certainly Intel has deep pockets and can absorb the hit. And those big box office supply stores, who just refreshed their product line, they can absorb the hit as well. And the distributors too. I do feel a bit sorry for all those mom & pop resellers who just refreshed their product line and point of sale displays. Q1 2011 revenues will not be so good.

Intel might be taking care of you somehow as an "authorized reseller". But what about the poor slobs who had already purchased an impacted Sandy Bridge based computer, took it home and loaded their software, and did all the configuration and modding that people like to do or installed in their wiring closet or entertainment center rack. Do these people continue to use their new PC, then when notified by their reseller have to bring it in for a systemboard swap. What solutions are you providing? Will Intel reimburse end user customers for the complete waste of time?

Go easy on the panic. April will be back to full distribution. Primary focus
right now is replace what made it to market now. There will be parts available,
just choose wisely. And if you're going to buy an Intel branded board make sure
you buy from an Intel Authorized reseller so if you have a problem you can get
it taken care of easily.

FWIW, Newegg is NOT an authorized reseller. The majority of their Intel product
is grey market.

That be all,

Intel announces Sandy Bridge chipset
recall

Stop all sales! Silicon problem can't be patched.

Intel says it won't be until April when fixed update of the
Sandy Bridge chipset will be fully available. Of course,
then it will be some time for motherboard vendors to
manufacturer/ship new system boards, and then some time for
system builders to build/ship new PCs.

After major time investment in hardware shopping research
this last week, I planned to buy a new i7 Core Sandy Bridge
based PC this weekend.

So now I have to decide to wait or buy two year old
computer technology.

Now I think I'll just roll...ur, I mean build my own. Or
maybe both.
