Car batteries are designed to be used a little, then fully recharged right away. They aren't intended to be drawn way down (cyclic use). The battery will be toast in 15-20 cycles. The starter motor may not last that long. Here again it's designed to be run for a few seconds (to start an engine), then given several hours of rest. In continuous use, it will probably overheat in a few minutes. How long it runs before burning out depends on what kind of starter you use. I hear some are better than others, though I don't know which to recommend. I really suggest that you listen to the people on this list who have done things like this. They've tried what you propose many times, and they know what they're talking about. Spending a little more money will save you a lot of frustration. However, if you just want to experiment a little with EVs, then $35 is pretty cheap for getting the experience. Just don't expect the "vehicle" to be good for much more than riding around the back yard for a week or two. What it ~will~ do is give you ideas for improving it with better parts. Careful, though, once you've had a taste of this, it can get to be an expensive hobby! = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Want to unsubscribe, stop the EV list mail while you're on vacation, or switch to digest mode?
