The problem with the Prius would most likely
happen to any modern regular car as well.
The E-meters have tiny fuses that blow easily.
It might be that a bolt got into your garage and
probably under your cars in order to do that. Look
around for little burn marks in the roof, floor,
standpipe, ect.
I live in Fla where lightning is the worse in the
US. These problems very rarely happen here so you just
got very unlucky. I can only think of a couple in my
life.

If there's a lot of lightning in your area put a
lightning protector in your charger, a tall or 2
lightning rods away from, but covering the house.
While these help a lot the 1 thing I've learned
about lightning is it goes where ever it wants!!!
In a metal car is one of the safer places though.
But remember that about 9 out of 10 people hit by
lightning live, including myself. Oh, that explains a
lot, they said, ;-).

    Explain the above to her.
They are in a lot more danger in most buildings
than in an EV in a lightning storm. And she should be
glad she doesn't live in the Tampa Bay area.
We have lightning storms about 140 days a year.
            Good luck,
