Larger wire isn't just a good idea, it's essential if the run is long enough 
that voltage drop exceeds 5 percent.  

I've had the experience of not oversizing enough on a 500' run -- now I have 
trouble getting induction motors to start in that outbuilding.  Do the 
calculations or you'll regret it!
