I like that even better.  Now what would it take to write a program to
look at locations of each LED on the display and determine if it is on or
off.  Convert that info into values that could then be saved in a plain
text file.  Kind of like A to D the long way around.  It would have lots
of isolation.

Another option to using a vcr or a camcorder is to get an inexpensive web
cam. Most come with software that allows time lapse video clips. Set it up
for 30 or 45 second intervals (more or less if needed) and record the
E-meter at a resolution that won't use too much hard drive space.
