It depends on the state you live in, if they have yearly vehicle inspections or not. I have a Metro that I bought off the man who converted it that is still registered as a gas - he left it that way intentionally because, here in this part of Oregon, we don't have inspections and you don't pay the higher registration fees for EV's unless it is registered as an EV.
