At this time, not all Leaf EV trims sold in the N. American market come with a L3 port as standard equipment. If we look at the Nissan page that shows a comparison between the trims http://www.nissanusa.com/electric-cars/leaf/versions-specs/
The L3 port and the 6kW on-board charger are an option. IMO the buyer should get both as they are good for a resale value advantage, as well as useful when using public EVSE. IMO There are items that should have been kept with the lowest priced 'S trim' model, and some fluff/junk should have been made optional to keep the price down. On the S trim ... Need an option to buy a: - Cruise control (to save energy) - B-mode regenerative braking system (to save energy) Need to make optional: - L1 EVSE - Tire repair kit - SiriusXM Satellite Radio with 3-month trial subscription Thinking about this further, we should be really asking for the next logical step: -I also propose that Nissan should offer a bare-bones/low-cost trim (based off the S trim) that changes to have some items as standard, and others as optional. I'll call it the "E trim". E being more than Eco-long ranger, or Economy, but the 'E" is also good for competing with the coming Tesla model E. This "E trim" would come with the L3 port, Cruise control, and B-mode regen as standard, and it would make the L1 EVSE, tire kit, and XM radio (and any other unnecessary items) as optional. Since there are so many EVSE on the market right now, it does not make sense for Nissan to jam their expensive L1 EVSE ($1000) http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=5 onto the purchase price when it may not be wanted nor needed. If the driver wants a L1 EVSE, they can buy thier own, cheaper. See http://stores.homestead.com/clippercreekinc/-strse-7/pcs-dsh-15,-portable-level-1/detail.bok http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-EVC11-300-Evr-Green-Portable-Charger/dp/B004G6ZQYY This "E trim" would offer the buyer a long-trip-optimized/capable Leaf EV at the no-frills/bare-bones lowest price. Those drivers may rarely go on a long trip, but when they do, their Leaf trim E EV can do it efficiently. I can see this low-cost yet more long-trip-worthy Leaf EV "E trim" for more than just the public. I see it as a good choice for fleet purchases. There are many fleet purchases of Leaf EVs going on right now by cities and companies as fleet vehicles. So, now is the time to make this "E trim" available for fleet and individual sales. Comments/ideas/corrections on this are welcome. I ask EVangels take this idea to their Leaf or other forums, even as your own idea if you want (as long as the task gets done, I do not care who gets credit), to sound it out and get it across to the Nissan lurkers that are hopefully listening to driver's needs. {brucedp.150m.com} -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Wanted-A-Leaf-EV-E-trim-model-tp4667145.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
